The Spatial Analysis and Research in Computational Science  (SPARCS) laboratory originated in 2004 as a collaborative effort between Department of Geography and Department of Computer Science, University of Calgary. The laboratory  is mainly supported by GEOIDE Canadian Network of Excellence, with additional support from sponsors in Academia and Industry.

Currently, SPARCS Lab hosts seven graduate and four undergraduate students, working on a variety of projects ranging from applied to theoretical and including autocorrelation analysis, spatial statistics, computational geometry, computer graphics and data mining. International exchange students and visiting researchers are also part of our everyday activities.

The focus of SPARCS Lab is on the development of new methodology based on the weighted distance function and autocorrelation analysis for study of the spatio-temporal phenomena on the example of health and socio-environmental factors. SPARCS Lab also focuses on the recent problems arising in the above areas, with the goal of identifying key issues, and providing efficient solution for research and industry.

SPARCS Lab offers a unique opportunity for potential graduate students looking for a cutting edge inter-disciplinary research on the verge of GIS and computer science. SPARCS Laboratory also conducts monthly research seminars, participates in student recruitment events (including GIS Day), and will be hosting the International Workshop on Spatial Analysis Research in Computational Science in Fall 2005.

We are glad that you have visited our site and hope you have found all the information that you need. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send them to us!
